Skateboard Wheels
Without skateboard wheels a skateboard is just a plank
of wood. The correct set of wheels can make all the difference in your
skateboarding. Depending on the particulars of your preferred riding
style, the wheels you choose will have a definite impact.
Skateboard wheels are categorized according to the combination of two
different specifications; wheel diameter and hardness, or durometer.
The durometer is usually listed using the “A” scale, which
is common to most wheel manufacturers. Selecting the right combination
of these two specs can drastically improve the performance of your skateboard.
For most street skaters, a smaller, harder wheel is usually preferred.
The smaller wheel keeps the speed down and keeps the board lower to
the ground. However, if you’re primarily just a cruiser, larger,
softer wheels are recommended.
