Skateboard Ramps
Skateboard ramps are a favorite with skaters around the
world. Over the past few decades they have evolved from homemade ramps
cobbled together from scrap wood and built in the backyard to being
professionally manufactured from specially treated wood and other composites.
Big air competitions can often involve ramps that are several stories
tall.
Many street skaters use smaller skateboard ramps and platforms for
performing tricks. These ramps are usually less than twelve inches tall
because street skating is rarely about air time. These are commonly
set up in driveways and parking lots and can usually be taken down fairly
easily.
Larger skateboard ramps are often used by more advanced skaters. These
are most often less than four feet tall, but those with more ambition
have been known to create complete half pipes that can be well over
ten feet. Professional competitions commonly use half pipes that can
be as tall as a small building.
