BMX Park
If ever there was a way to judge the popularity of BMX,
it would have to be the rise of the local BMX park. Like skateboarding,
BMX has had a history of problems gaining acceptance by city leaders
across the country. For decades, BMX parks have been few and far between
due to local laws which have shut down, or prohibited the building of
these parks.
In recent years however, the wide spread popularity of the sport has
made the BMX park much more common. Many city parks and recreation departments
have built and funded these parks to the cheers of BMX riders everywhere.
These newly legal parks have provided a safe place for teenagers to
gather and socialize.
The community BMX park is often the site of locally sanctioned races
and other events. Amateur BMX races are common family events that can
sometimes draw hundreds of people in a safe, friendly environment. Many
of today’s top riders started out in community events like these.
